G2 has developed a suite of technical functions to enable its delivery drivers to call in the delivery status of their drops. This has been achieved using simple but effective SMS (short message service) technology using standard Nokia mobile phones. Drivers are able to send a consignment number with an identifier for either delivered, failed or address checks. This information is then routed through an SMS server and in turn updates the corresponding consignment on the G2 website. This information is then immediately available for clients to view in a password protected secure area.

Should a delivery be called in as a failed delivery the SMS server automatically generates an email to the administrator supplying the operator with the consignment number and contact number of the driver. The administrator then immediately contacts the driver to obtain the reasons for failure; this information is then entered onto the G2 site again viewable by the client on demand.

The address check facility arrives on an agents desk in the form of an email with the relevant drivers name and contact phone number along with the consignment number and hyper linked postcode direct to a mapping system. The whole operation is supported by back room staff that is able to speak direct with the drivers, in turn update any information in real time onto the system as required and liaise with the client.

G2 offer its clients various reporting facilities including 'failed delivery status report', broken down by reason and type, first time delivery status and also overall delivery percentage success rates.

G2 are continually looking at ways in which the system can be improved to ultimately benefit the client.
